Gerard Henry Slagle

Slagle, Gerard Henry "Jerry"  or "the Pap", of Brighton Heights, (native of Ford City, PA), passed away at the age of 93 on Thursday, September 14, 2023, surrounded by his family.  Beloved husband of Alice (Grazorchalk) Slagle, and father of Lori Slagle.  Beloved grandfather of Sara and Alan (Kayla) Harper,  who he raised as his own.  Great-grandfather to baby Emilia.  Father to Craig (Polly) Slagle, and the late Cindy Slagle.  Grandfather of Jessica (Joe) Barton, Angel (Justin) Roberts, Benjamin (Connie) Slagle, and Nicholas Slagle.  He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.  Son of the late Harry and Margaret Slagle. Brother-in-law of Willa and  the late George Grazorchalk and  Brother-in-law of the late Dolores & Anthony Nee. Uncle of Lynn (Ray) Galiffa & Mark Grazorchalk.  Great Uncle of Eric Grazorchalk.  Dear friend of Carol & the late Bruno Sammartino.

Jerry spent most of his adult life working in the contact lens business. In the early 60's, he opened a contact lens lab called "Tek-Na-Con" in downtown Pittsburgh.  Later on, he established "G.H. Slagle Contact Lens Service," and fitted contact lenses for opthalmlogists in Johnstwn, PA, Weirton, WV, and Steubenville, Ohio for several decades.  Upon retirement, he worked part-time at the front desk of a nursing facility where he was known as "Mr. Jer".  

His life revolved around his family.  He enjoyed summers at the beach, and having family and friends over for the holidays.  He loved his home,  and could often be spotted shining his car in the driveway, or doing yardwork on a warm day.  He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as a good meal, dancing, and the companionship of his dogs.  He was a good man in every respect.  

Friends and family will be received Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm & Sunday from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc., 3552 California Avenue at Davis Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA   15212-2104.   Panachida will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:15 am. followed by the Funeral Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church.   Interment will follow in Union Dale Cemetery Div. #2.
