Marie J. Smetanka

Marie J. Smetanka, age  92, died peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025.  Marie was always seen with a bow in her hair.  She was very proud of her Croatian heritage, and loved to dance!  She grew up in the south side of Pittsburgh where she cared for her family and neighbors at a young age.  Her career began working with Bell Telephone and then transitioned to a loving homemaker after she married her beloved Joe. Together for 56 years, they raised three children:   Joseph W. (Cynthia) and Dr. Cindy Smetanka and Ava (David) Puccio.  Marie was proud to be an Avon lady for close to 50 years, a member of the Catholic War Veterans Woman's Auxiliary 1365 and the Croatian Day Committee, former Judge of Elections and Committee Woman for the 27th Ward.  Above all, Marie was proud to be a grandmother to Kyle (Deanna), Aaron (Courtney), Jacqueline (fiance Brad), Lauren, David and Joseph, and became "greater" as a great-grandmother to Carter, Kennedy, Everett and Owen.  Marie was a beloved sister to Carole (Gerard) Werries.  Also loved by many nieces and nephews and a friend to many.   She will be missed by all that knew her.

Relatives and Friends received 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday, January 10th  at the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc., 3552 California Ave. at Davis Ave., Pittsburgh, PA  15212. Funeral Mass will be held on Sat., January 11th  at 11:00 am in Christ Our Savior, St. Cyril of Alexandria Church.  Interment will follow in Christ Our Redeemer, North Side Catholic Cemetery.
