Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Mary resided in the Brighton Heights area where she and her late husband, Bill, raised four children. She had masters' degrees in Biology and History. She taught at Avonworth High School for over 30 years. When she retired, she and Bill moved to Ponce Inlet, Florida in 1994, where she volunteered her time and talents. She was a volunteer on the town's boards for 18 years, including the Board of Adjustments and then the Planning Board. She was selected by her piers to serve as chairperson on each board. She served on the Town Council from November 2011 through March 2021, which included serving as Vice-Mayor from November 2012 through November 2020. She was a long-standing member of the Ponce Inlet Garden Club and the Ponce Inlet Women's Club, serving on the scholarship committees of both. Her passion was to ensure educational opportunities for women, and she was proud to organize and present many scholarships from these organizations over the years. Mary was selected as Ponce Inlet's Citizen of the year in 2016 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 for her consistent volunteer efforts in that community.
