Thomas J. Hudanich, 75 of Bellevue, passed away on July 18, 2024. He is survived by his daughters Tracy Walker (Todd Oberly) and Lacey Hudanich; his cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Walker Hudanich; parents John and Julia. Tom – or Tommy, as he was known by those closest to him – worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a stationary engineer at the Pennsylvania State Office Building in downtown Pittsburgh. Working primarily the night shift was not easy, but he enjoyed meeting the guys for coffee and donuts each morning after his shift. On the way home, or any time he was in the car, Tom loved listening to oldies, especially the Rolling Stones. Once he got home, he faithfully tuned into KDKA radio in the kitchen for the news. “Old school” and blue-collar, Tom loved cooking Sunday morning breakfast for his family; eggs and pancakes were his specialties. Tom also loved all animals, especially the many family “pups” through the years. But his love for animals also extended to neighborhood birds and squirrels, who he regularly fed like pets of his own. Tom grew a tomato garden every single year and became known as “the tomato guy” to many, including the nurses who cared for him. Everyone’s handyman, Tom could tinker with plumbing, electricity and anything that needed to be fixed. Rarely did a day go by that Tom didn’t play “the numbers” (the Pennsylvania lottery). Whether it was during those family conversations with his wife and daughters, those morning coffees with friends, those tomato garden conversations with nurses, and even those “conversations” with those animals he so adored, Tom was never short on words. A straight shooter, Tom loved to “tell it like it is” in a way that was sometimes insightful, sometimes humorous, often endearing but always genuine. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, July 23, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc. 3552 California Ave. at Davis Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. in Assumption Catholic Church ( Regina Coeli Parish), 45 N. Sprague Ave. in Bellevue. Interment to follow in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.
